Commercial Trucking Lawsuit Settles for $1 Million
An auto accident case has settled for $1 million after a large commerical truck collided with multiple vehicles, causing serious injuries.
During the 2022 holiday season, a woman was driving westbound in the far-left lane of Sunset Boulevard in West Columbia, South Carolina. Ms. Sherri came to a complete stop for traffic ahead. The driver of a large commercial truck abruptly changed lanes from the center lane to the left lane, colliding with the rear of several vehicles, including Ms. Sherri’s car, at high speeds. Ms. Sherri was transported to the hospital by ambulance, where she received treatment for serious injuries.
Following a thorough investigation, Ms. Sherri’s attorneys discovered that the commercial truck driver did not have a valid driver’s license at the time of the accident and was neither physically nor legally qualified to drive the truck. They also discovered a lengthy and detailed history of traffic offenses and driving infractions committed by the commercial driver.
“The corporate defendant in this case had the responsibility of properly vetting the drivers that are hired and that operate company vehicles. Willingly allowing unlicensed drivers or drivers whose driver’s licenses are suspended behind the wheel of massive vehicles puts the general public at increased risk for catastrophe on the roadways,” said Mark B. Stanley.
Ms. Sherri was recommended for spinal surgery due to her ongoing pain and gradual degeneration. She underwent surgery. The accident has permanently altered and impacted her life.
“The victim in this case could have been you, your mother, your daughter, or your sister. This could happen to anyone,” Stanley said.
The case settled for $1 million.
