Driver Killed When Brakes Fail Leads to $2.15 Million Settlement

A $2.15 million settlement was awarded for the estate of a 24-year old man who died when the brakes failed on a dump truck he was driving for his employer.

Brandon Lawson was driving a dump truck for his employer, Galderese Trucking. On January 6, 2021, he was driving southbound on the Garden State Parkway when a catastrophic braking failure caused him to lose control of the vehicle. Lawson died as a result of his injuries after the truck overturned. 

The agreement was reached on July 12 after a single mediation session with retired Superior Court judge James P. Courtney Jr.
